MFA of Ukraine appealed to the States members of the United Nations to take further steps to strengthen pressure on the Russian Federation in connection with the violation of key provisions of a number of declarations and conventions in the field of human rights, including the continuation of illegal detentions, torture and repression of citizens of Ukraine.
This is referred to in the statement of the Ministry.
“We urge member States of the UN to take further consolidated steps to increase pressure on the Russian Federation due to willful violations of the key provisions of the universal Declaration of human rights, the International Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination, the Convention against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, the Convention on the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, the European Convention for the prevention of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, the other major international legal instruments, as well as disregard for the requirements of the resolution of the UN General Assembly A/C. 3/71/26 L. “the State of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and city of Sevastopol (Ukraine)”, – said in a statement.
In particular, emphasize the Ukrainian foreign Ministry, Russia continues the practice of torture and ill-treatment, unlawful detentions, searches, arrests and repression against the citizens of Ukraine.
“Russia continues the systematic practice of unjustified refusals to Ukrainian consuls in granting permission to visit the Ukrainian political prisoners. There is compelling evidence regarding the systematic use against the citizens of Ukraine who are on the territory of Russia and in the occupied territories, the prohibited methods of interrogation, torture, methods of psychological pressure”, – stated in the published document.
In recent times, have informed in the Ministry of foreign Affairs, the special aggravation acquired the situation of citizens of Ukraine, which by fraud has been involved in illegal schemes for the dissemination of narcotic substances on the territory of the Russian Federation. “In fact, the consequences of the implementation of such schemes is the engagement and involvement of our compatriots in illegal activities on the territory of the Russian Federation. Only this year in Russia for crimes in the sphere of drug trafficking was sentenced, almost a thousand of our compatriots, criminal cases, most of which are based on fabricated materials”, – said in a statement.
The Ukrainian foreign Ministry noted that the malicious actions of the Kremlin against the Ukrainians became so unpredictable and threatening that “in Ukraine are compelled to warn our compatriots against the implementation of the trips on the territory of the Russian Federation on the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory”.
The document also stresses that Russia continues to ignore undertaken in the framework of the Minsk agreements, the obligations to exchange the hostages on the principle of “all for all”. Despite the numerous appeals of Ukraine and the international community demanding immediate release of the illegally detained and convicted Ukrainians, the Russian leadership continues to “shameful practice of using Ukrainian citizens as hostages of its aggressive policy against our country.”
Moreover, Ukrainian diplomats claim, the amount withheld for political reasons in Russia the Ukrainians are not only not decreased but rather has increased and now stands at at least 17 people. Also at least 27 citizens of Ukraine illegally detained or prosecuted in Russian-occupied Crimea.
“Although in the Ukraine back six captives, their number has not decreased, but rather increased: we now know about the politically motivated retention in the state-occupier not less than 17 Ukrainians. Even more of our fellow citizens wrongly detained and arrested in the occupied Crimean Peninsula. Over a hundred of Ukrainians in appalling conditions contained Russian-terrorist forces in the occupied areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions”, – stated in the published document.
The foreign Ministry of Ukraine demands from the Russian Federation to immediately and without any additional conditions for the release of all illegally detained citizens of Ukraine, to stop the practice of political persecution and repressions against our compatriots.
