Poroshenko told about the future of “churches of Russia” in Ukraine

The creation of a single local Orthodox Church in Ukraine will help to return the Donbass and the Crimea, said the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

He said this on air of the Ukrainian TV channel

“Will the country be strong, having a unified Church? Obviously, Yes. Because we remove the internal squabbles and conflicts from the mid-state. And together we will liberate Ukraine – Donbass, and the Crimea“, – he said.

He also assured that in case of granting Ukraine autocephaly, it will remain of any other Church (referring to the UOC-Moscow Patriarchate). And called on “Patriotic forces” not to interfere with the Ukrainians to go to the “Church of Russia”.

“I would like to appeal to the Patriotic forces. We must act responsibly to demonstrate that in Ukraine there is freedom of conscience. If someone wants to visit the Church of Russia — it is their right”, — said Petro Poroshenko.

The President also said that a single local Church, in his opinion, will be able to unify the Institute of chaplains in the army — they will all be “Autocephalous”. Although he has previously stated that the rights of other Orthodox churches will not be broken.

Recall, April 17, after a meeting with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko faction leaders in Parliament agreed to support the vote for an appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
