Israeli Police Throw Disabled Man Out Of Wheelchair Onto Street (VIDEO)

Israeli police officer recorded pushing a disabled Palestinian man

Once again, Israeli police officers have abused their power against Palestinians. This time, bystanders recorded the moment an Israeli border police officer tips a Palestinian man out of his wheelchair. This happened during a confrontation in the city of Hebron in the West Bank. According to news reports, the incident happened a few moments after the Israeli authorities shot a Palestinian teenage girl who allegedly tried to stab an Israeli officer.

The Palestinian man who was knocked out of his wheelchair is Majed al-Fakhouri, who lost his leg in a car crash around 10 years ago. He declared that he was only trying to approach the girl who had been shot to help her. Majed al-Fakhouri told The Telegraph,

“I saw blood coming out of her arm and side and I thought she was going to bleed to death… I tried to help her but a police officer stopped me and ordered me to go back. Then he turned me over and my head hit the ground.”

After the police pushed al-Fakhouri, other Palestinians ran towards him to help him. The video shows that other Israeli officers pointed their weapons at them and shouted not to get any closer. One of the officers kicked a Palestinian and another one throws a stun grenade.

In the video the public can also see the girl in pain lying on the street without receiving any help from the Israeli officers around her. Of course, al-Fakhouri would like to see some justice, but believes this likely will not happen, since justice inside Israel is mostly only for Israelis. Over half a million Israelis live in more than 150 Jewish-only (illegal) settlements across the West Bank. They live in heavily-guarded communities, protected by both Israeli security forces and private security guards; a security which Palestinians lack entirely.

The incident is being investigated by Israel’s Ministry of Justice, according to Micky Rosenfeld, spokesman for the Israeli police, and Justice Ministry spokeswoman Eden Klein. Nevertheless, it is said that many Palestinians have been disguising themselves to carry out attacks on Israelis in the past several months. Mr. Rosenfeld said in an email statement to Newsweek that

“A few minutes after a terrorist attack had taken place by a woman terrorist adjacent to that area, a crowd gathered and attempted to get into the area where the attack had taken place… Border police dispersed the crowd and used non-lethal means. The man in the wheelchair was part of that crowd that had gathered. The footage of the incident is being looked into by the ministry of justice that examines those types of incidents of border police behavior.”

Violence between Israelis and Palestinian has been escalating. Since October 2015, 163 Palestinian have been killed by Israeli security forces. In the same period, 27 Israelis and one American have been killed by Palestinians. Palestinian, Israeli and international rights groups have argued that Israel is using excessive force against Palestinians and, in some cases, fatally shooting people who could simply be arrested.

While it is true that allegations of stabbing attacks by Palestinians against Israelis have been increasing, the violence used by Israeli authorities is certainly disproportionate and out of control as can clearly be seen in this case.
