Trump is trying to stack the Judiciary with fanatical anti-LGBTQ extremists
Trump really, truly has it out for the LGBTQ community that he claimed to support
Donald Trump is a liar? Nooooo, that couldn’t be, could it? Oh yes, indeed, it is true, and his approach to LGBTQ issues is a perfect example.
Remember back when the reality show host promised that he would be the most LGBTQ friendly Republican President in history?
Thank you to the LGBT community! I will fight for you while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs.

As Vox points out, Trump was even behind Caitlyn Jenner, who up until recently was a Trump supporter, when it came to using bathrooms that corresponded with her gender. This was something that many Republicans were fighting tooth and nail against, loathing the idea that someone who is transgender might be in the same bathroom as a cis person.
Times have changed and now Trump is just as much of an enemy to LGBTQ Americans as any other hardcore Republican.
Now, on top of all that, Trump is looking at appointing some brutally homophobic folks to the Federal Judiciary of the United States. Think Progress has assembled a list of some of the folks Trump seems to want to be on the bench, and quite a few of them are ultra-conservative and openly anti-LGBTQ.
One of them is Jeff Mateer. Oh man, what a piece of work this dude is. He actually said that transgender kids are PART OF “SATAN’S PLAN”! Wow, attacking children. CHILDREN. How low can you go? Well, as CNN Politics reports, THIS is how low he can go. Here is an excerpt from a speech he gave back in 2015 called “The Church and Homosexuality”.
“In Colorado, a public school has been sued because a first grader and I forget the sex, she’s a girl who thinks she’s a boy or a boy who thinks she’s a girl, it’s probably that, a boy who thinks she’s a girl. And the school said, ‘Well, she’s not using the girl’s restroom.’ And so she has now sued to have a right to go in. Now, I submit to you, a parent of three children who are now young adults, a first grader really knows what their sexual identity? I mean it just really shows you how Satan’s plan is working and the destruction that’s going on.”
Mateer is also angry that the US would even consider banning controversial conversion therapy which is meant to “cure” people of their gayness. As the Human Rights Campaign states, conversion therapy, “is a range of dangerous and discredited practices that falsely claim to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. Such practices have been rejected by every mainstream medical and mental health organization for decades…”.
There is zero evidence showing that conversion therapy works and no shortage of evidence that it does great harm, pushing some LGBTQ folks to depression and suicide.
And don’t get Mateer started on the issue of same-sex marriage, something he believes will lead to people marrying animals for some bizarre reason. Apparently, America is heading back to a time of “debauchery” as warned about in the New Testament, according to him.
This is just ONE of several homophobic jerks that Trump is looking at to put on the Federal bench. Others include Matthew Kacsmaryk, Kyle Duncan, Steven Grasz, Michael Joseph Juneau, Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch. All of them have connections with right-wing ultra-conservative anti-LGBTQ organizations or have expressed some pretty horrid views when it comes to LGBTQ people.
So, clearly, when Trump tried to pass himself off as some kind of ally to LGBTQ Americans, he was lying through his teeth. Now that he President, he has begun to systematically throw LGBTQ folks under every single bus he can possibly find.
