Bigoted GOP Lawmaker Doesn’t Think Gays are Human
If You Haven’t Heard of GOP Rep. Rick Brattin Before, You Will Probably Wish You Would Have NEVER Heard of Him After You Read This
How on earth do people like Missouri GOP Rep. Rick Brattin get elected into government?? How do bigots like this manage to work their way into positions of authority? Who votes for them!?
So, what did Rick Brattin do that puts him onto the long list of Republican deplorables? Hold on to your hats. As Pink News reports, this one is a doozy.
“When you look at the tenets of religion, of the Bible, of the Qur’an, of other religions…there is a distinction between homosexuality and just being a human being.”
Come again? What was that? What are you saying? What are you implying? So, basically, if you are gay you…aren’t human? Oh geez. Rick, Rick, Rick.

Rick Brattin made the bigoted statement while the Missouri House of Representatives was debating an amendment to a bill that would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender. Apparently, he wasn’t too keen on the idea of protecting the rights of LGBT citizens, and made that extra clear with a big, fat, ridiculously horrible argument.
His argument was that by passing a law that would protect the rights of LGBT folks, it would infringe on the rights of the religious, and that just won’t do according to Rick. Heck, gays aren’t even human!
The Kansas City Star ripped into Rick Brattin in an editorial, saying, “The statement, made on the Missouri House floor, was deplorable. It betrayed a stunning lack of understanding of theology and self-government: The Constitution protects all Americans from the tyranny of any single faith-based approach to secular law.”
To make matters worse, not only did Brattin suggest LGBT’s are less than human, but the amendment to the bill, proposed by Republican Rep. Kevin Engler, was pulled because there didn’t seem to be enough support for the amendment and he didn’t want the entire bill to go down the drain. So, not only does Rick Brattin think that LGBT citizens don’t deserve protection from discrimination, apparently many of his fellow Representatives do as well!
To add further insult to injury, the House did pass a bill, SB 43, on that same day that would actually make it harder for EVERYONE to sue over discrimination. What the heck is going on in Missouri??
Rick Brattin has a terrible history of having terrible ideas and saying horrible things. For example, a few years back, he proposed House Bill 131. As Think Progress reported, his big idea was that for a woman to get an abortion she had to get a notarized letter of consent from the biological father first. But don’t worry, if it was “legitimate rape” a woman would be exempt, as long as she had a police report. Get a load of this:
“With the women’s movement for equal rights, well it’s swung so far we have now taken away the man’s right and the say in their child’s life. It’s a child’s life that’s taken. The woman’s life is not altered…Just like any rape, you have to report it, and you have to prove it. So you couldn’t just go and say, ‘Oh yeah, I was raped,’ and get an abortion. It has to be a legitimate rape… I’m just saying if there was a legitimate rape, you’re going to make a police report, just as if you were robbed.”
Holy geez, what a piece of work this dude is. And, assuredly, you can expect more of this kind of stuff in the future seeing as on his website it says, “He stands firm on conservative values and faith and will never waiver on these principles.”
